Millard G. Reed: A Legacy of Service, Vision, and Giving

Millard Reed’s life is a testament to resilience, leadership, and generosity.  From his military service to his transformative role in blind golf, Millard has shaped the USBGA community with unwavering dedication.

Early Life and Military Service

Born in Santa Paula, California, Millard proudly served in the U.S. Army.  After his service, he earned a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Nevada in 1962.  His career

spanned roles with the Nevada Department of Wildlife, Rocketdyne, and as Public Works Director for the City of Reno.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Personal Resilience and Return to Golf

Millard faced vision loss beginning in 1996 due to Wet Macular Degeneration.  After losing central vision in both eyes by 2006, he trained with Nevada Blind Services and the Veterans Western Blind Rehabilitation Center.  His neighbor reintroduced him to golf, and with support from his late wife Irene and coach Jay Carter, Millard returned to the game with renewed purpose.
