Since 1953 the USBGA has served the Blind & Visually Impaired community
we strive to grow the sport by offering clinics to blind and visually impaired people and teach them the sport of blind golf.
Millard Reed’s life is a testament to resilience, leadership, and generosity. From his military service to his transformative role in blind golf, Millard has shaped the USBGA community with unwavering dedication.
Born in Santa Paula, California, Millard proudly served in the U.S. Army. After his service, he earned a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Nevada in 1962. His career
spanned roles with the Nevada Department of Wildlife, Rocketdyne, and as Public Works Director for the City of Reno.
Millard faced vision loss beginning in 1996 due to Wet Macular Degeneration. After losing central vision in both eyes by 2006, he trained with Nevada Blind Services and the Veterans Western Blind Rehabilitation Center.
His neighbor reintroduced him to golf, and with support from his late wife Irene and coach Jay Carter, Millard returned to the game with renewed purpose.
Millard joined the USBGA in 2007, rejoined in 2009, and quickly became a standout competitor. His titles include:


Elected to the USBGA Board in 2010, Millard helped revise the By-Laws and create the “Policies and Procedures” document. His steady leadership and thoughtful guidance strengthened the organization’s foundation.


Millard was inducted into the USBGA Hall of FameClassof2021 
during the 75th Anniversary National Championship at Champions Gate Resort in Orlando, Florida. His biography was read aloud at the ceremony, honoring his contributions as a B3 visually impaired golfer and leader.

Recognizing the need for sustainable funding, Millard established the Reed Endowment in 2017 with an initial gift of $116,000, followed by a second major donation in 2020. This perpetual fund supports tournaments, outreach, and player development.
