Kentucky Regional Enjoys Another Successful Event

By Tom Mirus

The third Kentucky Regional tournament was held September 22-23, 2013 in Lexington, KY at the Golf Club of the Bluegrass.  It is a very blind golf friendly course.  The weather was terrific with plenty of sun both days and pleasant temperatures.  The golfers were treated to daily lunches on the course from Chic-fil-a.  Many thanks go to Paul Weise for his hard work and hospitality.

Eighteen blind golfer/coach teams gathered to participate.  There were nine B1 blind golfers and nine vision-impaired from the B2 and B3 categories.  Competition was played using the modified Stableford system we have come to use at most regional events.  Sunday’s first round was followed by a reception and tasty lasagna dinner at the community clubhouse between the golf course and the hotel.

Following Monday’s final round, everyone gathered at Comedy Off Broadway in Lexington for a buffet dinner, a comedy show and the awards ceremony.   Sponsors were thanked, pictures taken and awards presented to the following winners:
            B-1 1st low gross—Brian MacLeod w/Sarah MacLeod
            B-1 2nd low gross—Ron Derry w/Chad Derry
            B-1 3rd low gross—Jim Baker w/Doug Kaylor
            B-1 low net—Tony Schiros
B-2 1st low gross—Kevin Edwards w/Anna Edwards
            B-2 2nd low gross—Jeff Estero w/Stan Hall
            B-2 low net—Bruno Boucher w/Bob St. Jean
            B-3 1st low gross—Tom Mirus w/Robbie Robinson
            B-3 low net—George Thirkill

Paul said they are already looking ahead to the 2014 event!
